Are you looking for an authentic Thai experience? Our orphanage is just 3 hours from Phuket in a small rural village called Bang Wan on the road between Takua Pa and Khura Bhuri. For the duration of your stay you will become part of our extended family of 2 adults and around 15 children. The kids love to mix with foreigners and you'll have no shortage of fun and the money you pay will go towards the upkeep of the orphanage.
Food
You'll receive 3 Thai meals a day and we will happily cater for all tastes and allergies. Food from Southern Thailand is typically very spicy but you can have whichever strength you can take. We all gather together in the cookhouse for mealtimes and its a wonderful opportunity to learn some of the language and interact with the children. If you would like to learn about the cuisine, Gai will gladly walk you through some of her seemingly endless list of recipes.
What goes on?
On weekdays the children go to school so you have time to yourself. Bang Wan is very quiet but we go into Takua Pa most days where you can walk around the market, try some street food or even spend some time people watching in a cafe. Within an hour's drive you can find all of the following;
- Trekking
- Elephant safaris
- Deap sea fishing
- Whitewater rafting, and;
- Snorkelling.
Kha Sok national park is less than an hour away where you can book a bungalow and spend a few nights in the rainforest and check out the local wildlife which includes gibbons, deer, tapir, hornbill and even leopards & tigers. Or, alternatively, 15 minutes away you have a stunning waterfall where you can swim with the fish or have a picnic in the sun.
If you just want to stay in the village you can always play football with the kids or the locals, badminton with the girls or just lie in the sun and get yourself nice and brown.
Accomodation
Your accomodation is basic, but, more then adequate. There is Wi-Fi, two computers, a TV (with access to foreign channels) & DVD player , Western toilets, a hot shower and every room has a ceiling fan. There is one double room and 3 twins. We are happy to cater for individuals, couples or familes.
The owners and the children
The owners - Gai and Sam - are incredibly friendly (as are most Thais) and they speak a reasonable standard of English. The children are also extremely welcoming and very well behaved. Naturally they are cheeky, curious and playful but they rarely fight or argue. Sometimes you forget that they ahve come from difficult backgrounds.
Cost
Homestays cost 750 Thai Baht per day and there is a minimum stay of 7 days. This price includes your three meals and your board. This price does not include the price of transportation which is as follows;

Phuket airport pickup or dropoff : 1000 baht
Phuket town : 1500 baht
Khao Sok : 500 baht
Khura Bhuri : 300 baht
Takua Pa : 250 baht (except market visits which are free)
Other journeys can be negotiated.
